Word Chain is a vocabulary game where each word you play must start with the last letter of the previous word. If someone says 'apple', the next word must start with E. The chain keeps growing and you cannot repeat a word that has already been used. A timer adds pressure, and the game ends when someone cannot think of a valid word in time.
The difficulty increases as the chain grows because common words get used up early. You are forced into less familiar territory with each round. Certain letters are much harder to start with than others. Starting with X or Z is a trap. Words ending in Q are almost non-existent in English, making Q a legitimate game-winning play if your opponent did not see it coming.

Which letters are the hardest to follow?
X, Y, and Q are generally the hardest letters to start a word with. U follows Q in most English words, so if you end on Q you create a very difficult spot for your opponent.
Is this good for vocabulary building?
Yes. The pressure of the game forces you to reach into less common parts of your vocabulary, which reinforces word memory better than passive reading.
