5-Second Rule
Name 3 things in the given category before 5 seconds are up. Sounds easy. It really isn't. Great as a party game or solo challenge.
Prompt
Name 3 types of sandwiches
How to use
- A category prompt appears - something like 'Name 3 types of cheese'.
- Read it out loud, then tap Start. You have exactly 5 seconds to say 3 things in that category.
- Tap Got It if you named 3 things in time, or Missed if you didn't make it.
- Your streak resets on a miss. Keep going to build the longest streak you can!

The 5-Second Rule game is simple: you see a category and have to name three things in it before five seconds run out. The ticking clock and pressure of having to blurt out answers quickly is the whole point. Things you know perfectly well suddenly vanish the moment the timer starts, which is why this game is consistently funny to play with a group.
It works well as a warmup for a party night or as a standalone challenge between rounds of other games. You can play solo to test how quickly your brain retrieves information under pressure, or pass the device around and compete head-to-head on the same category. The categories span a wide range so no two rounds feel the same.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you score in the 5-Second Rule?
If you name 3 valid things before the timer hits zero, you pass the round. If you cannot, you fail. Track passes and fails across rounds to determine a winner.
Can I replay a category?
Categories are drawn randomly so you will not usually see the same one twice in a session.
Is this good for a party or group?
Yes. Pass the device around so each player answers a category in turn. It plays best with 3 or more people.
What if someone argues about a borderline answer?
The game is meant to be played with some human judgment. Decide as a group whether borderline answers count.
