How to use

  1. Pick Add GST if you have the base price. Pick Remove GST if you have the MRP and want the original price before tax.
  2. Enter your amount.
  3. Choose the GST slab. When in doubt, check your invoice or product category.
  4. You'll get the base price, GST amount, and total all split out clearly.

GST (Goods and Services Tax) replaced multiple indirect taxes in India from July 2017. It applies to most goods and services at slabs of 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. The calculator works in two directions: add GST to a base price (exclusive to inclusive) or extract GST from an MRP (inclusive to exclusive).

To add GST: Total = Base Price × (1 + GST Rate ÷ 100). To remove GST from an MRP: Base Price = MRP ÷ (1 + GST Rate ÷ 100). A common mistake is applying the rate directly to the total instead of the base, always use the correct formula or let the calculator handle it automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

What GST rate applies to common goods and services?

Essential food items: 0–5%. Packaged food, medicines: 5–12%. Most services, electronics, and appliances: 18%. Luxury goods, cars (above 1500cc), aerated drinks: 28% (plus additional cess for some categories).

What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?

Intra-state transactions split GST equally into CGST (central) and SGST (state), each at half the total rate. Inter-state transactions use IGST (integrated GST) at the full rate, which the centre then distributes to the destination state.

Is GST included in MRP?

Yes, the Maximum Retail Price printed on packaged goods in India must be GST-inclusive by law. When a retailer quotes an MRP, the GST is already baked in.

Who is required to register for GST?

Businesses with annual aggregate turnover above ₹40 lakhs (goods) or ₹20 lakhs (services) must register. The threshold is ₹10 lakhs for special category states. E-commerce sellers and those making inter-state supplies must register regardless of turnover.
